For many years cans of soft drink were seen as rather cheap/common/price sensitive and bottles ruled.  Recyclable cans beat plastic anyday and are now back on trend ...... even at £2.25/£2.40 a time!

Bins of the Future

Bins in Denmark have an external 'speedrail' shelf where used cans and bottles can be placed and easily picked up by those wanting to make some extra money from the refunds.  Scotland has already announced it will introduce a deposit return scheme.

Carpet Coffee

Costa say they recycle their old coffee sacks into carpet underlay plus their cups are made from sustainable wood pulp (small problem with the plastic film inside the cups which prevents their easy recycling but am sure they are working on it).
