Forging the Cafe of the Future

The Forge in Shoreditch is a really interesting example of a cafe that has come of age and includes all the options - coworking space, cafe, lounge, canteen, art gallery, wi-fi, good coffee, juices, beer (from the on-display tanks), wines and cocktails.
Expect to see more cafes blur the boundaries with pubs, restaurants and social spaces.

8.5 Million Moggies

The fact that there are 8.5 million cat owners in the UK might explain the extraordinary success of Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium cafe in Shoreditch.
£5 cover charge per person for a two hour session and they are booked up until June.
There is a real lesson for all cafe operators about the power of attracting special interest groups.
Enjoy your moggie, macchiato and macarons!

Coffice

The cafe office comes alive at Ziferblat in Old Street where you are charged on a pay-per-minute basis.
'Creative Working Space' is the designation (due to planning use) and both credit cards and receipts seem off the menu ('donations' please).  The self help kitchen (and washing up) is novel.
