Easy Home Bake

Have you noticed the range of Brownie and Cookie dough products in your supermarket?  If my kids can bake them when getting home from school, perhaps more cafe owners should be using their bake-off ovens a little more.

Maybe I'm being a bit thick here, but I'm confused at the point you're trying to make. Are you suggesting Cafes should use these cheat products, or do the right thing and make all their offerings from scratch? Please elucidate...

Ideal (and more profitable) if cafes make brownies and cookies from scratch but bake-off products served warm and fresh are better than stale bought-in. Point I was making somewhat clumsily is that standards are changing - our potential cafe customers are serving themselves warm and fresh product at home so we better make sure our products are at least as good.

Thanks for the explanation, Chris.
I have to say, I find the idea of any cafe simply producing the self-same food that a customer can buy off a supermarket shelf, completely wrong. I believe it is the duty of cafe owners in this testing environment, to differentiate and minimum, make customers food from scratch, on the premises. If not, just what is the point of any customer dining out? If they can bake-off at home, why pay extra for someone to do it for you? Personally, I'd be embarrassed to take money from someone, if I didn't cook for them. I'll take your point on profits, as I assume you're speaking from a position of strength. However, it's up to the business owner to ensure pricing viability and ensure the customer gets fair value, for cooking expertise. Standards may indeed be changing, but anyone who is serious about running a food business, must respond appropriately, to ensure their continued existence in providing an eating 'experience', surely the biggest of all, differentiators. I work long hours to make fresh brownies, scones, cakes, etc. I suspect many owners simply don't want to work that hard to make their money and as standards do change, they will find themselves with no business, as people vote with their feet and frankly, it would serve them right. Just my forthright view!!
Fantastic blog by the way. Picking up some interesting ideas. You deserve to receive more comments for your efforts. Keep up the good work, anyway.
